Fiona began her art training at the Jacob Kramer College of Art in Leeds, she went on to complete her Fine Art Painting degree at Norwich School of Art and Design and a post graduate course at the Cyprus College of Art.
After graduating she experimented with words and photography and many of her illustrations have been published in literary magazines.
Fiona went on to complete training in delivering Cultural product and developed a
series of multi-
When Fiona began to paint again she was managing the renowned Outsider Art gallery, Roar, her experiences of working with the artists there led her to explore pattern using line drawing and flat colour to create visually rich figurative pieces.
Fiona now paints only landscapes using oils on canvas or board.
The layers of the paintings are built up with oil glazes which Fiona makes herself using Damar Resin.
The recipe that Fiona uses for the glazes is the same as was favoured by the old Masters adding a traditional element to these contemporary landscapes.
Fiona says: ‘ Painting the Norfolk Landscape is like trying to fit a billboard onto a postcard: the sea and the sky escape from the edges of the canvas.
‘When I moved to Norfolk from the North East I couldn’t see the point of the landscape, flat long lines with no undulation. It has been like falling in love – the landscape has become a slow burning passion and moves me to try to create some sense and understanding of the experience of standing on the marshes surrounded by the elements.
