Richard Millington
Richard trained at West Surrey College of Art and Design and Brighton Art College, acquiring a BA Hons degree in Visual Communication. While studying under Raymond Briggs, he was invited to join a restoration team at Brighton Dome, replacing hand-painted regency wallpapers.
Then, while at the Slade School of Fine Art, London, Richard joined Linden Artists as a commercial book illustrator. Richard then became an independent bird and natural history artist, working purely on commission. He wrote and illustrated Twitcher’s Diary and produced limited edition prints and greeting cards, mainly to fund his obsessive habit - birding. In 1986 Richard set up Birdline as is still its voice today. He also co-edits Birding World Magazine.
Richard’s art has taken a dramatic leap from the commission led work to a more free and expressive style he is keen to explore. He uses a mixture of mediums in his work and readily experiments with new materials. Always with a natural inspiration, Richard’s work is going from strength to strength. His paintings currently hang in private collections from Australia to Africa. In 1989 Richard fulfilled a lifetime dream of moving to Cley, where he has lived happily overlooking the reserve from his studio window. He met his partner, Hazel in 1975 and they have been living happily together ever since.
