Budding Artists
The Pinkfoot Gallery is always on the look out for fresh, new talent;
therefore we invite submissions from artists who think they have what it takes to
become a successful and professional artist.
However, as with every gallery, there
are some basic ‘dos’ and ‘don’ts’ when submitting work:
DO's
1. Phone or email the
gallery before you send anything. You need to check that they are willing to look
at or take on new artists. Remember, a good gallery is usually very busy and therefore
cannot afford to spend a long time chatting on the phone.
2. If yes, ask how they
would like to see your work. The preferred way is by low resolution jpegs sent as
email attachments. If you want to post anything, always include an s.a.e with the
correct postage.
3. If after four weeks the gallery hasn’t got back to you, send a
polite email asking for a response.
4. If the response is favourable, the gallery
will probably ask you to come in for a meeting to discuss your work. Remember that
this isn’t an offer from the gallery, merely the next step to see if collaboration
can be made.
DON’Ts
1. It’s a gallery’s worst nightmare to have an artist waltz in
off the street, laden with a bulging portfolio expecting to show their work there
and then. This behaviour is like someone walking into a solicitor’s office demanding
an immediate answer to their dilemma.
2. Sending huge email attachments that take
an age to download is a good way to annoy a gallery. Or sending enormous Power Point
presentations or some other presentation that needs the recipient to download certain
software to view your work.
3. Don’t repeatedly phone to see if the gallery has looked
at your work. It can take up to a month for a busy gallery to assess your work.
